more lamps!

my new apartment has NO overhead lighting in any of the main rooms except the bathrooms and the kitchen, so I'm really delving into lamps!
My bedroom has a preppy pink blue and white theme. the comforter is a pink and white stripe with blue sheets and striped pillows. i desperately wanted a bedside lamp and today i found not one but two great ones! I decided the blue was just too perfect and to conquer it first.
I found the most amazing shade at goodwill on folly road. it was small enough for the lamp (also from that same goodwill) but had some excitement- double shades. more excitement- high school musical 3d motif! yeah, it needed to be recovered.
I also picked up 2 "Seersucker" mens dress shirts at the same goodwill. i felt slightly bad cutting up the jcrew one, but i think ive got plans for the leftovers.
I realized the HSM print would def show through this thin fabric, so i put a thicker layer of white beneath it first, then hot glued on my fabric.
LOVES IT!
Lamp- $3.50
Shade- $1!!!!
2 shirts- $3 each, have tons left over for upcoming project

Total cost- $10.50

happy thrifting :)

Feeling Fruity

Its the end of the summer and approaching the end of berry time! This means berries are on sale at the grocery- My favorite, raspberries are usually super expensive but they're BOGO at Harris Teeter this week (and most weeks lately) and 2 for $4 at publix! Time to stock up!
But wait, you say, can't stock up on berries! They get moldy in 4 or 5 days! Let me share with you some secrets to keeping berries so fresh and delicious:
Always rinse all your berries right away gently in a mixture 1 part white vinegar 10 parts water. It's diluted enough not to effect the flavor of the berry, but gets in the little crannies of the berry and keeps them mold free for over a week!
Freeze what you won't be eating this week. Frozen berries are delicious in smoothies or especially on ice cream. I like to freeze low fat sugar free yogurts (may I reccomend Publix brand- often 10 for $5 and tons of delicious flavors!) and mix in berries for extra deliciousness! Just let the yogurt thaw a bit and it gets really creamy, perfect on a hot summer day. My favorite with raspberries is mandarin orange!
My tips for freezing:
1)Rinse berries in vinegar/water mixture. lay out to dry on paper towels.
2)Place on cookie sheets so they are not touching and freeze for 1 hour. This makes sure the berries freeze separately and makes it MUCH easier to get out just a couple for a snack!
3)Dump cookie sheet into a freeze safe container and enjoy at your convenience!

the lamps of my dreams!

So happy with my finds today! Been looking for matching lamps for either side of my couch but just too darn cheap to pay $30+ each at the store! Today at the goodwill on folly road I found the perfect thing- a set of brass colored lamps for $3 and $4 each- without and with a shade respectively. The color was a perfect match to the frame of my print of Randolf hall hanging over my couch.
Even better, I found two matching lamp shades- SQUARE (I love straight lines!) with seafoam trim- my couch color. Can you say destiny?
I spritzed up the lamps with a fresh coat of paint and voila, new lamps for:
Lamps- $3 and $4
Shades- $2 each
Paint- Valspar Brilliant Gold- $3.50
Bulbs- energy efficient- $4
TOTAL COST- $18.50

YAY!
